Foundation
At the end of April 2003, we had the foundation excavated and footings poured. You can see the footings that would eventually support the block walls for the basement and the 5 pads that were installed to support the support poles at the center of the structure.

We opted for one contractor who could provide excavating, masonry work, and eventually install the septic system. This worked out easier than dealing with three different contractors. Therian Excavating did a wonderful job and charged a very fair price. The guys were always willing to answer questions and put in a lot of extra effort to make sure the job came out looking great.

Materials Delivered

The crew from Therian was on-site early and anxious for the truck load of materials to be delivered so they could get to work. Two trucks brought all of the blocks and mortar. Cement trucks later delivered the material for the poured basement floor.

Snow in April

We were a little anxious when we woke up to this snowfall at the end of April. Fortunately, it melted off and the temperatures went up enough so the crew didn't have to be concerned about the wet mortar freezing before it set.

Quick Work

We were amazed at how quickly these guys put up the foundation walls. The walls were completed in two days. The basement floor was poured on one additional day.

Finished Basement

This is the completed basement. You can see the color difference in the decorative split face block that was used above grade level. Despite some confusion on code requirements, we were happy that we pressed for the floor drain in the corner where the utilities would be located later. During the framing, the water from several days of heavy rain was easily drained.
