January - February 2004

Our new mahogany front door was installed by Bruce when he was here in December. Our Christmas wreath and the snowshoes add to the winter scene.

We like to keep a pictorial record of the snow depth each month. This was taken on January 11. Heavy winds blew much of the snow from the roof.
Paul was outside early one morning to record the fresh snowfall. And the snow keeps getting deeper, and deeper. This was taken on January 24.
The picture on the left was taken from the back porch, facing north. Above, the snow-laden trees are on the west side. Snow had accumulated to about 24 inches in mid February.
An infrequent visitor to the suet feeder is this woodpecker. Bluejays also enjoy the rich fat and raisin laden treat.

All the doors and frames and walls are treated to three coats of Minwax polycrylic finish. Contrary to popular belief our weekends are not spent in idle pleasure.

Our birthday boy was surprised by the "Over the Hill" decorations that Anne and Bruce left for him. The room was decorated with black crepe paper and the above window messages. He still insists that he was not cheating while putting the tail on the donkey!
Inspired by all the fun that Matthew and Sebastian had sliding during their visit, Harlene couldn't resist following their example..

What fun to be a kid again!

When we arrive, and the snow is very deep, the only way for us to get to the cabin is by donning our snowshoes and piling the supplies on the sleds and hiking in.
